Out Came the Sun: One Family's Triumph Over a Rare Genetic Syndrome

Six years into their marriage, Judith and Greg Scott decided to have a child; they were blessed with the birth of beautiful Emily. But their euphoria was short lived when their child was diagnosed with a rare and disabling condition: Partial Trisomy 13. Emily, they were told, would never walk, talk or read. From this tragic beginning unfolds the astonishing, life-altering journey of Out Came the Sun . Emily struggles to learn life's simple tasks, lagging far behind her peers. And the strains on her parents' marriage nearly cause it to come apart at the seams. But when Emily starts exceeding her doctor's expectations, Judith realizes that she too can overcome adversity by opening her life to more love and more children. This riveting, beautiful memoir demonstrates that extraordinary fortitude requires to take misfortune and valiantly turn it into triumph.

A Must Read for All Parents

This might very well be one of the most powerful books I have ever read. It is extremely well written, and heart wrenching. I think every parent should read it whether they are a parent of a special needs child or not. As a parent of healthy children, it makes you appreciate all of the little moments you often take for granted. There are so many millions of things that babies just do with seemingly little effort. Each one of those is a miracle in itself. Many children and their families struggle with these things. I am grateful to Judith for sharing her story. I won't soon forget it.

Must read for any parent of a child with special needs!!!

"Out Came the Sun" is a well-written, candid account of a mother's experience learning to cope with and accept her daughter's disability. It's a quick and enjoyable read, and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who is a parent of a child with special needs, or wants to know more about what it's like to parent a differently-abled child. I myself am a mom to twins born prematurely with cerebral palsy. I could relate to much of what Judith Scott wrote, and it was really therapeutic knowing I'm not the only one who's been through such a tough journey. I loved this book, and again would highly recommend it to anyone!
