This book is dedicated to my wife Barbara Michelle Jones, United State Marine Corps Sergeant, Yuma Arizona Aircraft Crash Crew Rescue Group Leader, whose love of history brought me to a higher level of appreciation and understanding at this time in my life. I love you more than words could express and I thank you for being my wife, you're the only one who ever made me feel like we were a team. If you have not heard of the achievements of a man named Cornelius Vanderbilt, you certainly know of the Biltmore thanks to his son George. Their family story is an American story, they are our downtown abby, our great family castle. Still privately owned and operated by the family, they have given back to the community in so many ways, such as the grant of land to preservation of forest, now known as the Pisgah National forest.
