Rutherford B. Hayes left his home in Delaware, Ohio to leave his mark on history. His strong ethical foundation was forged in his hometown. He practiced as a young lawyer until the Civil War broke out. He volunteered to serve and commanded the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded five times and was decorated for his bravery and leadership. He served as Governor of Ohio and in Congress. In 1876, he was elected as our 19th President of the United States. He continues to serve as a role model for his integrity, honesty and strong moral character.
