This is a great intro to to Jewish History for kids and adults

I read this at age 12, and it was perfect. The vollume that I read went from the Babylonian Exile up to the Bar Kokhba rebellion. I wanted to learn the part of Jewish history that you don't get from Bible stories, and I got it from this book. OUR PEOPLE covers the parts of Jewish History that too many of us are ignorant about. There's the return to Judeah, the chronic problem with corrupt Kohanim, the Persian conquerers, then Alexander the Great, then the Ptolemy rulers (Greek speaking Egyptians), then the Seleucids (Greek speaking Syrians), the Macabian revolt, the evil Hasmonean Kings, and so on. I learned how the Macabees started a dynasty of corruption, how Herod came to power, and how Judea fell under Roman domination. It's not a pretty history. But our children need to learn the truth. I recommend this book to anyone, Jewish or not, who wants to learn Jewish History.
