In 1965, five students at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), were brought together by Fate to form a rock band, The DRUIDS. This is the story of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of that band. The band was born during a significant change in culture, the beginning of the hipness movement in the San Francisco Bay Area that came out of the beat generation, and the frustration of college students regarding the status quo and the birth of the counterculture. In Southern California, Los Angeles was rapidly becoming the epicenter of pop culture in music and fashion. These two cultural shifts merged at ground zero in Isla Vista, the community adjacent to UCSB, where many of the UCSB students lived. It became the perfect breeding ground that gave rise to a number of rock bands. The DRUIDS became one of the top bands of the area, and during its short life, performed with some of the top rock groups of the day, were signed by a Hollywood agency, recorded four singles, and learned the pitfalls of the recording industry, and the challenges they each faced as university students who wanted to play rock and roll. The band had a good run but ultimately, each of the members went their separate ways.In 1998, Fate again brought the five DRUIDS back together. They kept their music alive with several reunions each year and began to perform live again after a thirty year hiatus. This is their story, and includes all the ups and downs that the five band members experienced during that time, and how they are still keeping their music alive.
