For several years now, the causes of autoimmune diseases have been a topic of discussion in rheumatology. In recent years, there has been a growing consensus that gut bacteria may be a trigger for this type of disease (Martin Rurwaleit, 2006). In addition, a higher incidence of patients with vitamin D deficiency has been observed in Sp.A. (Dr Gudrun Lind-Albrecht, 2010) This naturally raises the question of whether osteopathy (particularly techniques targeting the gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidneys, as well as facial techniques for the skin, connective tissue and proprioceptive framework) can similarly improve general health, mobility and well-being in patients with SpA.
