On a blustery spring morning in 1893 a boy was born to Knut and Birgit Thollehaug on their farm in Norway. Oscar grew up in the close-knit family, the tenth of eleven children, until he was seventeen. Then he followed two of his older brothers to America. Oscar Thollaug, From Norway to America is the story of this eager young man who left his home and family and emigrated to build his future life in the Land of Opportunity. He became educated, achieved success in the world of business, married and had four children. Not all things worked out as he might have expected, however. At the onset of the Great Depression, Oscar became ill, with what would later be diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis, and he was unable to continue the pursuit of his dream. His efforts to regain his health and support his young family are detailed through his letters. This story is sensitively written from the perspective of his family, history, and culture in Norway.
