Fifteen-year-old Lonnie, his ten-year-old brother, Wallace, and eight-year-old sister, Peg, have been living on the streets of New York for the past year after their mother's death. Barely able to beg for enough money to eat, Wallace decides to take matters into his own hands against his and steals a gold watch.
