although having a copyright date of 1976 this fine book reads fresh and clear; right into the new millenium. i like what they say in their introduction; that they have no answers to solve all managerial and supervisory problems; that the most important questions remain unanswered. it has a superlative chapter on structure - including references to thompson, lawrence and lorsch, open system, and boundary spanning units - never equaled. it has unusual chapters like; financial reward systems; frustration instigated behavior; and managing external relations. it doesn't make the assumption that leads the manager to emphasize employee satisfaction at the expense of organizational effeciveness. it's just a book plainly written years ahead of it's time, and still very interesting cogent reading for the executive or student who wants to go beyond this years best sellers.
