This book is not merely a listing of allied forces and their commanders, but also contains maps and narrative text that fully develops the book's main theme. Although a bit limited in scope, the western allied forces consisted of Americans, British, Canadian, and a multitude of other forces that all coalesced into the allied forces. Each had its hierarchies and many are detailed in this book. Military historians and those who want to know which officer lead which corp or army group will find this book fascinating and full of detailed information. It gives the casual reader information about how the campaigns were organized to help them understand the complexities of managing a war effort. This book fills a void, and the publisher seems to be working towards a total picture of how world war two was organized from the top down. Look for others already on the market and for others in the months and years to come. Once in place, it should place the war in a whole new light for those who want to understand just how vast a conflict the Second World War really was.
