The Alpine County Museum initiated the interview and documentation of the Stuart P. Merrill Oral History, a personal account of his life and times and that of the Merrill Pioneer Family. Oral history is a form of historical information gathering, using interviews with persons who have lived during or are direct descendants of a period of interest or era being researched. An oral history often draws out topics and the human perspective on events and details often missed in other written research or academic documents, and in doing so, can provide character and fill gaps in historical documentation. Spoken words are transcribed, and the eyewitness accounts of those who lived through and/or were told stories of both significant and everyday events are captured for future generations. A number of years ago the Alpine County Museum established an oral history project; staff and volunteers continue to expand, document, and maintain an oral history collection.Donations can be made to the:'Oral History Project'Alpine County MuseumP.O.
