In an attempt to establish a profile of the perception and performance of oral health care provided to patients in intensive care units by nursing teams, a study was carried out with 402 interviews guided by a questionnaire. The study population was made up of nursing professionals divided into three training categories: nurses, nursing technicians and nursing assistants who work in public and private hospital institutions providing services in intensive care units in the city of Bel m-PA. Dentistry has developed significantly in this area, linking scientific discoveries and practical applications in the preventive field and in restoring people's oral health. This reflection correlates with the research carried out in this study, which returned results suggesting that oral hygiene care provided to patients hospitalised in ICUs is scarce and inadequate, and that changes are needed to the care currently provided, especially in the nursing team's nosocomial environment.
