Oprah, Miracles, and the New Earth: A Critique

What is Oprah really teaching?

When the world's most powerful celebrity (according to Forbes magazine) personally teaches a course on miracles, millions will join her class--including many believers. What will happen when the coursework blends inspiration and encouragement with some of the oldest heresies in the Enemy's arsenal? People you know and love may dismiss the claims of Jesus Christ as the only way to God.

Dr. Erwin Lutzer's insight and clarity reveals the true nature of contemporary spirituality, tracing its roots across a range of false belief systems and back to its first appearance in the Garden of Eden. In a day when so many seek direction from the media, it remains essential to carefully discern between truth and lies.

Old lies repackaged, exposed

I'm embarrassed to say that I would consider myself a very grounded Christian, but fell for the experiential platitudes of Tolle. I should have caught the same old, tired philosophies of Tolle repackaged in a delightful way. But in the end, I'm once more acutely aware of the real truth. Jesus said in John 14, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father but through Me." Lutzer pegs the mark without flinching. He provides clarity and defensible arguments that are not only convincing, but also useful for addreessing people stumbling toward old, dead ideas that are repackaged nicely. But non truths will never lead to the real love relationship and grace without works that the Jesus of the New Testament offers.

Excellent contrast of two DIFFERENT belief systems

This book demonstrates the incompatibility of the New Age spirituality being pushed by Oprah Winfrey and Biblical Christianity. While Oprah still claims to be a Christian with an "open mind", the spiritual teachings she preaches and authors she recommends offer ideas that contradict those of Jesus Christ. Having an open mind is one thing, but claiming to follow two incompatible belief systems is either confusion or deception. If she wishes to follow New Age teachings that is her choice, but don't try to re-write Jesus' teachings to say something that they do not. This book is highly recommended for Oprah's viewers or any who are considering New Age thought.

Short but right on

This is a very perceptive book about the "new" spirituality. An easy read and well worth sharing.

excellent contrast of Orpah's New Age spirituality with Biblical Christianity

Erwin Lutzer does a superb and indepth job describing Oprah's New Age spirituality and contrasting it with biblical Christianity. Evidence in the book shows Oprah to be a false prophet with the largest following of our time. With her XM radio station she is broadcasting her fabricated and counterfeit view of Christianity all over the airwaves. Many new Christians and those seeking to know truth are being deceived by Oprah's teaching. If anyone thinks Oprah is a Christian you will find out otherwise when you read Erwin Lutzer's book. If you are wondering what the difference is between New Age spirituality and biblical Christianity read this book.

Excellent wake-up call

Pastor Lutzer has again written an excellent, informative critique of the dangerous religious ideas, actually lies as old as the Garden of Eden, made so popular by Oprah. How sad that Oprah has turned away from the Biblical truth of her childhood and from the cross of Jesus as the only way to God, and that so many people follow her every word, no matter where it leads. We should pray for her eyes to be opened to the God's truth and we should share this book with those who believe her, before it's too late.
