"Operation Damocles" is a secret mission that's result will be world domination. Now a spy with human failings and a pragmatic sense of duty; the woman he's been ordered to kill, a newscaster with the courage to defy a media gag-rule and speak out; a crotchety old scientist; and his lifelong friend, a kindred curmudgeon and retired CIA agent will engineer a world-wide rebellion.
I enjoyed reading this book because I enjoy investigatinglibertarian ideas. I can well understand how the technical formatcould be criticised - but I am more interested in the kernal ideas presented, and where they go. Is this book a reflection of thinking/trends in the US? Does it reflect an undercurrent of dissatisfaction of the current state of US policy or structure of personal existance in the US? It does revisit the old theory of a Technocracy, exploring the thought that scientists can make better command decisions for our (the population in general) well being than can politicians or religious leaders. Self government is another idea to explore. Many people are tired of the conservatives and the liberals taking potshots at each other. They both appear to hype their own agendas but never do things appear to get better for the regular (what-ever that is) person. The scenario depicted in this book is not one I would wish, but that decision would not have been made by me if I hadn't been exposed to the ideas presented. A page-turning adventure in the spirit of Clancy and LeCarre

OPERATION DAMOCLES is a non-stop thrill ride that goes progressively from a peaceful morning on the Florida beach at Kennedy Space Center to a heart-pounding conclusion in the hills along the California coast. In between, it keeps the reader turning pages as it follows a totally believeable underground effort to halt a socialist takeover of the United States. For the most part, the war is fought not with weapons, although there is action aplenty, but with money and influence, just as is happening today--a quiet coup from inside our political system. Like Tom Clancy's stuff, this book is definitely pro-American, and because it puts a microscope on the real political agenda inside the Washington beltway, the left-wing liberals aren't going to like it. Fellows' career experience inside the federal government is evident from the outset, and this book is as real as it gets. The characters are human, with a human mixture of failings, doubts, inspirations and nobility. The understanding of the insider culture of the government, the military and NASA, could only have been written by one who has been there. A highly recommended read.
