When al-Qaeda cells simultaneously attack nineteen prominent landmarks worldwide, a new international anti-terrorism team is created. Their mission is to rid the world of Ashmir Bukr, the new al-Qaeda leader, and every al-Qaeda cell under his command. Bukr, who replaced Osama bin Laden through deceit and deception, has given the world an ultimatum-remove all Western influences and the Jews from the Middle East and allow the Muslims to establish a New World Order, or reap the fury of al-Qaeda A Saudi spy, code name Zafar, aids the anti-terrorist team by infiltrating the top levels of the al-Qaeda network but seems to be working more for the al-Qaeda leaders than the anti-terrorist team. When two Iranians discover his double agent status, they attempt to extort money from him to keep his secret secure. As both sides begin to suspect his loyalties have turned to the enemy, Zafar must prove his allegiance to one or the other, even if it costs him his life. With the time-line having been set by Ashmir Bukr, the anti-terrorist team is under pressure to find and destroy al-Qaeda before Bukr fulfills his promise to wreak havoc upon the world.
Towards the beginning of the book I found a couple of typographical errors which suggested sloppy editing (typical of a cheap publisher) and I wondered if the whole thing, though engrossing thus far, would prove to be more "get it out as quickly as possible" junk that I've seen so much of. Not so! The rest of the book was free of obvious errors, the plot well-considered, and it was a genuine pleasure to read. The book is not terribly long, but as you are finishing it you realize that it's not as short as you thought it was by just looking at it, either. The author maintains chronological order throughout most of the book but conceals some events until the end in order to maintain suspense. (A cheap trick, but it works well). I particularly liked the fact that the book was "clean". No profanity, sexual material or graphic violence that would make me hesitate to leave it laying around my house. Nevertheless, the characters and the plot were believable, and the reader doesn't feel like he's watching "Sesame Street". Overall, I'd say it's a triumph for a virtually unknown author, and a worthy read for anyone with a taste for adventure.
