Open Discussion is the "book" and lyrics to an original musical first produced at Wayne State University in Detroit in 1987, and extensively re-written in 2016 and 2017. There are links to YouTube videos throughout, so that the reader can hear the songs while reading. Open Discussion takes place in an LGBT Alcoholics Anonymous group. During the play, each of the eight characters share their experience, strength, and hope with each other as they deal with issues of sobriety, grief, and physical illness (AIDS and cancer.) The play is set in Austin, Texas in the mid 1980s. The musical genres are folk, country, and pop.
