OntoBRIDGE

The information on the Web is largely decentralized and this aspect favours its growth. In order to store knowledge and make it accessible to machines, ontologies allow information to be grouped into knowledge domains, which can be used to discover and select information that is relevant to the user's interests. Although the use of ontologies for the representation and organization of knowledge represents an advance towards the automation of information discovery processes, the diversity of ontologies for describing the same domain can make interoperability between applications difficult. This problem refers to semantic heterogeneity, which is more philosophical than computational. The inherent difficulty in communication between the agents and services that use these ontologies makes it clear that there is a need to include a neutral entity between the parties, which can resolve problems relating to impasses between information. This entity is called a mediator and, in this work, it appears as a mediation service called OntoBRIDGE, which carries out the ontology reconciliation process.
