This is the third in a series of murder mysteries I have written with the primary sleuths being a husband-and-wife team, Mathew and Megan Brader. The first two books, When Murder Makes House Calls and When Murder Knocks on the Door are a collection of short stories with the Brader's helping the FBI solve crimes. In the first story of the second book, The Halger House, the working relationship between the Braders and the FBI is stretched to the breaking point when Joe Tornez, the Brader's New York FBI contact, attempts to coerce Mathew into returning as a full-time FBI agent. Unfortunately for the FBI, Mathew discovers what the FBI is up to and turns the tables on them, causing a major upheaval in the New York FBI office. After that, the Braders continued to work with the FBI, but only on a limited basis and with considerable caution. Unfortunately, Joe Tornez, the FBI agent responsible for the New York debacle, never fully recovered emotionally from what Mathew did to him, and that sets the stage for the third book in the series.
