It is further defined in the Urban Dictionary as "Online Dating is where you call text or email the person which is your online gf/bf and send pictures and talk on the phone and meet each-other in real life." (Urban Dictionary) The Oxford Dictionary says it's "the practice of searching for a romantic or sexual partner on the Internet, typically via a dedicated website" (Oxford Dictionary, n.d.)
