Haight's spare and sometimes poignant words relate what daily life was like living in primitive conditions where a shower was a rare enough event to be worthy of mention; where long bouts of oppressive heat were followed by periods of relentless rain; where the heart-stopping intensity of battle was followed by long stretches of monotony.
The old adage 'one picture is worth a thousand words' proves true once again in One Soldier's War. Pictures and historic background information have been added to assist the reader both in understanding the geography and history of the areas mentioned, as well as the specific events described in PFC Haight's short journal entries.
One Soldier's War, published during the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII, is an educational journey. It is also the author's tribute both to her father-in-law and all in the military who sacrifice so much for the freedom we too often take for granted.
