Cookie the dog is the best reader in the Baxter family--he's even learning to write! When Pet's Day arrives at Nash and Duffy's school, they bring in Cookie to show the other students. The other kids... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I'm the author & artist of One Smart Cookie. So I suppose you might consider me a bit biased when it comes to reviewing this book. But keeping that in mind, I'd have to say I think this is an important book from a certain viewpoint. Reading sometimes seems to be an imperiled skill in this electronic age, when button pushing takes the place of lost arts. Words and the art of reading and writing can still work their magic... once the secret is unlocked. Only sometimes it's hard getting that locked case to open. In my fanciful tale, the Baxter family includes two wonderful children who'd rather do just about anything except read a book. At least that's how it is until Cookie, the family dog, takes up reading... to baffle them all and lead the story on to new adventures. Of course fame & fortune await this talented pooch, as he discovers his special talent brings changes to his family and saves the day in the end... not withstanding a few basic poochy skills, of course. Oh, and there's a spelling bee and a dramatic rescue by the fire department too! But I don't want to give away the plot... Hope you buy the book and enjoy it. Thanks!
