There are many reasons why a head coach's job is always at risk. The most obvious could be having a losing season or seasons. Meet Lacy Longtree, the head volleyball coach at Honey Oaks High School, her alma mater. With Lacy at the helm for the past six years, the Lady Bees have progressively gotten worse season by season, failing to make the playoffs for the first time in over twenty-five years in 2017. Now the new athletic director, Betty Sullivan, has told her in the most unfriendly of ways each time their paths cross that Lacy has one last season to get the team back to state or she will be reassigned out of coaching by the second semester. If that's not enough of a problem for Lacy, she experiences a clash with an unhappy parent, an overbearing lawyer who is on the school board; a key player goes out with an injury; another key player flunks one course at the end of the first six weeks. There's one more issue going on as the season begins; a clash with the new strength and conditioning coach, Todd Garrison, who thinks that football is the ruling sport and has first call on school facilities. Complicating that issue is that Lacy is attracted to him if they can ever get past squabbling over the reserved times for the weight room and what teams should get to use that facility. The 2018 season is going to be quite a ride for Lacy and the Lady Bees. Cheer them on as they work to make it to state!
