In 2015, retired L.A. Police detective and successful crime novelist Rick O'Grady and his grandson Sean are living in Malibu, CA. Having no clues regarding a series of gruesome murders, Sean and his detective partner, Tamara Mills, involve Rick in The Bird Streets Butcher case. Although a missing person report and mysterious video lead them to Steyer BioGen Logistics, they find nothing to prove that Jonas Steyer is the murderer.

As the killer's victims continue to mount, unexpected help arrives from two very different corners, and Lenore sees her life change twice more in ways she never imagined possible.
