I have to admit that I haven't read the book. However, as far as the movie plot goes, it's as old as the hills. Everyone has an old acquaintance or relative, or whoever, acting as a bounty hunter and needing to go after someone they love or know too well.
In this case, Stephanie Plum, played by Katherine Heigl, is divorced and out of work. She takes on the challenge and works for her cousin, the bail bondsman, tracking down an ex-boyfriend who knows her all too well. Soon, she suspects he may be innocent, but a bond is a bond, and she can use the money.
Well, Ms. Plum is portrayed as a fish out of water, learning as she goes, and we do get a few surprises as the story takes a darker turn.
