Having read several of the essays contained within, I can say that these stories, much like Russia in general and Russian dentistry in particular, are not for the faint of heart. The author lived long enough in Russia to make a number of keen insights into that culture, but not so long that he forgot how an American reader would best understand the anecdotes. I'll take two- one for me and one to give as a gift- since we don't live in Russia, a bottle of vodka is not in my budget.
