One Dark Knight

The earth was the center of the Universe- Claudius Ptolemy, whose views for the cosmos persisted for 1400 years. For me the Ghetto life was the center of my universe. -Dorothy PincusAn Anomaly is who I perceive myself to be because I have great memories of my childhood. Defying the odds is a term most people that know me often say when they hear a glimpse of my story. Growing up as a kid in a war-zone. I prefer to call it boot-camp. That's what it was really like from my point-a-view. I am a season veteran of street smarts, ghetto life. Yet I feel my life was shelter and protect by the norm of ghetto life. I was there, I experience it but my community protect me. I was a kid that was part of a system that was lost at sea. And no one, not one soul, wanted to visit or save us. I was one of the children in my ghetto world that was the center of their universe. We were loyal to each other. I was allowed to study outside of the boundaries of my neighborhood and when I returned from school, they welcomed me with open arms. It was a mutual respect being a part of the ghetto life. The choice was made for me. Everyone knew hands off of Dorothy. She's special, so I never wanted for anything. My community was proud of me and they protected me from the horror of the ghetto life. After we moved for the ghetto life when I was about 15 years old, I was subjected to another type of circumstances. Politics was my new norm, I was known for my talents. I went to a gifted school, where kids grew up with both parents. I practical lived at school after the principal threaten to kick me out my freshmen year for wearing a designer garbage bag to school. He gave me one more chance and I took it and it changed my life forever. I was popular. A tom boy at heart and hung out with most of the senior boys in school. I was that girl who hung out and talked crap about the girls. I often set the senior boys up with the freshmen and sophomore girls. It was my way of avoiding them from hitting on me. I met my dark knight right after high school working in New York at this bar called Chelsea Place on 8th ave. It was an unusual place because the restaurant/bar was hidden in the back of an antique shop. It was very popular place and I of course had a fake ID in order to work there. I needed to make some extra cash so my older cousin Wendall and I worked as musician. I would sing an array of songs from 8-3am on Friday's and Saturdays and prayed all day on Sunday's of our sins. A lot of celebrities often came by and the tips were at least three to four hundred bucks per night not counting our salary. For a 15-year-old kid, that was good money. My dark knight often visited Chelsea Place. It was there, where he befriended my older cousin Wendall who shared very personal information about me. I had no idea my cousin made a deal with the devil on my behalf until I was faced with a bullet to my head standing in my Marina Del Rey living room years later. Thanks a lot cousin Wendell. He was even supposed to get a settlement from my dark knight once the release of my album made it big. Wendall got played without no pay. After all of this came to light, Wendall reach out to me to complain about his transaction with my dark knight. Scandalous Wendall and I never spoke again after that phone call awakening. My experience with my dark knight has taught me that a con artist is really a psychologist. They can convince you to hand all your wealth over freely. Gullibility is the con artist's best friend. They are mentally damaged people with no scruples. If you run into someone like that Run. They have some serious skeletons in their closet and you might be next. -Dorothy Pincus
