I agree wholeheartedly with "A Customer". This book has been invaluable to me as I work in a hospice setting. I would add that the chapters entitled "Concepts of Oncology Nursing" (sounds dry but believe me, it is certainly not!), "Family in Crisis", and "Professional Survival: Care of the Caregiver" are as tremendously important as any of the others. The book is carefully researched and documented, and it is worth the time and effort to find it.
Review for Oncology Nursing
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 23 years ago
I discovered this book some time ago while working on my doctorate in nursing. Although it is somewhat short on detail about specific cancers and their treatments, it is bursting with thought-provoking, excellent information about nursing theory, ethics and our current health care system. The author uses a clear conceptual framework to address a broad range of issues that impact upon cancer patients. The chapters on Children with Cancer, sensible Treatment of Chronic Severe Pain, and Care of the Terminally-Ill are particularly valuable. Although this book is now somewhat difficult to find, it is certainly worth the search.
