Connecting with readers like me

When an author as L. T. Smith makes you feel so close to her as she does when she writes, the reader is trapped without any chance of closing the book and run away. That may be called connection. How is that? You may ask. Let's see: L. T. Smith's writing is original, funny, entertaining and leaves you with a smile chapter after chapter even though there is a drama going on between the book's lines. It's like no matter how the main character feels, I (Author) won't let you sink with it, stay with me and let's sort it out together. It may also be the style of approaching. The First Person that gets into your brain and makes you be her, the same mind that is talking to you while you read her. "Once" starts with bad news. While the main character and narrator updates you how she feels and what's happened to be in such a state, the possibility of being saved shows up and never leaves once Earlham Park is one of the scenarios. Beth Chambers and Amy Fletcher will be the main characters in this well written tale while the Border Terrier known as Dudley "Duds" is the connection between them. There is a park, a dog and two women. The story begins but not as simple as it looks. Those women are wounded by others and need to heal. Whether they will heal by themselves or in company of others, is something to discover in the book by you, reader, and not by me. While reading "Once", there was a funny feeling that made me tremble and look in the most profound of my inner. A lesson that I should learn and apply. That feeling does not happen always in books. L. T. Smith gives a wonderful lecture of why do we behave in one way or the other and what do we deserve all. It's like a mirror with two sides and each reflection is parallel. Strange but beautiful at the same time. This is the connection I have with this wonderful and talented author who also deserves many readers besides the one who suscribes to this comment. There is something about this young author that makes me look for her new writings over and over again. L. T. Smith may not be as prolific in publishing as other novelists but her three already published books make her being one of my favourite one. "Hearts and Flowers Border" and "Beginnings" still are as fresh as the first time I read them. What's more: They still surprise me and make me laugh out loud. I might be very Nokia like with all this connectivity but when you read novels as the ones from L. T. Smith, you may change your opinion also and start feeling the same way as I do.

Once Is Never Enough

LT Smith hasn't written many books, but those she has written are not to be missed. Here, she introduces Beth Chambers, a wonderful girl-next-door type who only wants to be in a loving, monogamous relationship. Beth is devastated when she catches her girlfriend Sue cheating. Beth kicks Sue out of their house and goes into a deep depression. One day, while walking her dog at the park, she meets the happy-go-lucky Amy Fowler. Because of her recent bad experience with love and her faulty gaydar, Beth isn't sure how to react to this enigmatic woman but she knows she could easily fall for Amy. The two of them struggle with insecurity - Is she gay? Does she feel that way about me? Could we make a life together? I laughed, I cried, I contemplated, I read it twice. These characters are so real, the reader will want to scream at them much like one would scream at a horror movie victim - `Just take a chance and kiss the girl!' Bottom line - This one is deep and thought provoking. There is no substitute for true love, although it's sometimes hard to see it when it's right in front of you. Read it, pull for Beth and Amy, and thoroughly enjoy your evening.

Once, a book I could read Twice.

I received this book for a Christmas gift. It was a little slow to start but once I got through the first 20 pages it picked up. Its a great book to read after a break up or at the start of a new relationship. I could relate to the characters. I recommend this book and look forward to reading more of this author's.

A Feel Good Story

The 'leftovers' from Beth and Amy's past relationships take a toll on each of the women. Following an emotion filled meeting in the park, a friendship blossoms and grows. Will this new friendship give Beth the support that she needs to find her way back to the woman that she once was? Beth and Amy's story is a sweet love story. I like the characters very much.
