I was born in Ukraine in the mid-sixties and my first seventeen years were marked by poverty, a difficult childhood and a lack of love. I find myself ugly and this made my teenage years bitter, but despite this, happiness finds me. I fall in love with a divorced man ten years older than me and marry him against my parents' wishes. A week after our wedding, I get the first slap, then the second, then the third... By the time I realise I've made a big mistake, it's too late - I'm pregnant. I should run away, but I have nowhere to go. After the birth of my son the things getting worse and when my life is at stake, I take the strength to get rid of my violent husband.

The years that followed did not go smoothly either, but all the bad things I go through only strengthen me and push me towards a better life. Will I ever be happy again and will my dreams come true?
