The memories of the Chow-Feica family tell the story of Canada from the turn of the 20th century. These are the memories of a mixed-race family growing up in the 1900s in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, born to immigrants from China and Romania and destined to experience the racism, opportunity, poverty, heartbreak and hard-won acceptance that so many immigrant Canadian families have experienced. Charles Chow and Mary Feica were a mixed-race couple before anyone had even coined such a term, and would go on from that first giant step outside of societal norms to create a family unafraid to be different. As a third-generation member of the colourful, creative, and just a little crazy family that grew out of the 1910 marriage of Mary Feica and Charles Chow, I feel privileged to have had the chance to gather my family members' touching, funny and surprising memories for this book, put together for our 2015 Chow family reunion in Victoria, B.C.
