Promised to a man she'll never love, Flora flees her father's home and plunges into the confusion of the Jacobite rebellion. Flora is rescued by a handsome Highland soldier, who leaves her to join the next campaign to regain the British crown. Flora finds herself entrusted to a ragtag regiment of crippled soldiers, with only Sorley's compass as a keepsake of their fleeting desire.
I am a sucker for historical romance set in Scotland. You mention kilts and bagpipes and I'm a goner. Megan Grey tells one "mean" story. She does an incredible job of building characters that you fall in love with; and by the end of the book you don't want to leave them behind. Megan skips the repetitivenes of "She loves him; BUT because of her past...." that I find boring in so many romance novels, and gets right to the nitty gritty of the characters love for each other. This is one book that I intend to keep so that I can re-read it over and over again. I was surprised to see this is Megan Grey's first book. I eagerly await her next.
