The sequel to On Deception Watch, On Vestige Way, is a cli-fi thriller of the near future. Epic in scope, its theme is global warming, and its stage is the entire Earth. It can be read on at least two levels. First, it is an exciting story of worsening world climate conditions and the consequent impact on the Marshall family, interracial couple James and Sylvia Marshall, high-level employees of The World Federation, and their son, Jonas. Their adventures are entwined with the impact of climate change on The World Federation, a super corporation tasked with converting the world to a safe hydrogen energy economy based on controlled laser-induced fusion. In addition, there is Paul Latimer, former Vice President of the United States, whose secret intelligence gathering firm has successfully penetrated the worldwide Deep State. Second, it can be read as a wake-up call that dramatically portrays the future that may happen if we don't stop burning fossil fuels. The science in the story (gently introduced) is accurate, and the projected future is entirely possible. The central anchor for the story is Beijing, The People's Republic of China, which is the new headquarters location for The World Federation. However, the story hopscotches the world from Bangladesh to the Middle East, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Northern China, Mongolia, Siberia, the United States, Mexico, Canada, and the jungles of Brazil. The characters and action are riveting, and themes are just a headline away: World government, alternative energy, climate wars, food refugees mass migrations, and atomic blackmail. The book is basically a story of too little, too late being done to get ahead of global warming.
