Interesting instruction- sketchy images...

I like this, even though it's filled with mainly sketchy & preliminary images. Take a good look at the current cover images- not a single illustration inside is much more finished than these. This is an exceedingly rare example of a title that's more interesting to me for its words than its pictures! There are *lots* of great insights into the art of drawing & illustration inside. Fawcett was a founding member, along with Rockwell and others, of the Famous Artists School, which is currently best represented by The Figure: The Classic Approach to Drawing & Construction, one of my favorite figure books. I highly recommend Walt Reed's The Figure to everyone, with On the Art of Drawing being more for enthusiastic collectors of how-to-draw type books. Contents= 1. The Why of Drawing; 2. Drawing for Information; 3. Questions and Answers; 4. On Drawing Naturally; 5. On Technique; 6. Variety in Drawing; 7. Drawing as Understanding; 8. Round or Flat; 9. From Light to the Scene; 10. On Taste; 11. Seeing and the Medium; 12. Economy; and then Illustration and the Contrived Picture. Original copyright= 1958.
