In following many of the rules of these wri ters, and, in attempting to imitate their too often confused and improbable statements, disappoint merit, such as frequently happened with myself, must have been experienced by others in a varie ty of instances. It was the frequent repetition of such unpleasant occurrences, in my treatment of., these important and very general diseases, that first convinced. Me af the necessity of exer cising some independence of thought in, my reasoning and practice; and of 'followi rules Alone which would be supported reasoning as might of itself be at least as easily understood, as the rules which it inculcated.
