Omo Valley: Vanishing Tribes

Omo Valley is located in the Ethiopian portion of the Rift Valley. The author, who has a degree in Cultural Anthropology, wanted to visit the tribes in the area while they still live in traditional bush villages. The author, an artist, has been working on a series 'Across Space and Time' that was juxtapositioning Omo tribal photos with personal photos from the 1950's. Her desire was to travel to the Omo Valley to take photos to use in her paintings. In the process, she realized that she wanted to document these tribal people before their current lifestyle is changed by progress. Not only is technology via cell phones infiltrating their lives, the fertile valley's land is also being leased to foreign investors, causing changes to the structure of their daily life.
