Ominous - An African Journey begins in 1985, near the end of a thirty-year period when organizations such as the Peace Corps, CUSO, WUSC and the VSO sent thousands of North American and European volunteers to work in schools and on community development projects in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and the South Pacific. During three years as World University Service of Canada (WUSC) teachers in rural Zimbabwe, the author and her husband survived encounters with dangerous animals, a wild river and military patrols. They made life-long friends and became part of two African families. They have returned to Southern Africa several times since 1988, sharing more adventures with people who have become part of their lives. Their African adventure continues.
