Olive Kernels: The Green Gold of Innovative Cosmetics

This project entitled "From Olive Kernels to Green Cosmetics" explores the potential of olive kernels, a by-product of the olive growing industry, as a key ingredient in the formulation of cosmetic products. The project aims to make the most of an abundant natural resource, while meeting the growing demand for cosmetics that are ecological, effective and natural.The study focuses on the physico-chemical properties of olive stones, composed mainly of cellulose, lignin and phenolic compounds. These elements give them a natural abrasive texture, ideal for gentle exfoliation, as well as a high antioxidant potential beneficial to the skin. Their use in cosmetics also helps to combat oxidative stress and skin ageing, thanks to their wealth of natural antioxidants.The project also shows that olive stones are used as natural exfoliating and lightening agents. In addition to their benefits for the skin, the exploitation of this by-product contributes to the reduction of waste and the promotion of more responsible and sustainable cosmetic practices.
