Olive and Fae take readers to a gentle, loving, and cooperative community where everyone is welcome. In the uncertainty of this world, find a haven to visit anytime you choose as you read these stories. Tucked away in lovely woods, surrounded by a beautiful wildflower meadow and bubbling creek, all the inhabitants of the community thrive with the help of each other. Meet Olive, a hedgehog who brings common sense and gentle caring to everyone, especially Fae, her lifelong best friend and housemate. Fae, another hedgehog, is the shy, less-than-sure, best friend of Olive. Scotty Squirrel runs the local exchange where the community contributes their resources and receives those of others to keep everyone supplied with their needs. There's Enid and Stewart Rabbit, mother and son who come to the woods after losing a family member. There is Felix Fox who keeps the community safe. Oscar and Merlin Crow who are the "news boys" keeping everyone informed of the happenings in the woods, meadow, and around the creek. Stella Owl teaches the youngest of the community, and she provides herbs and flowers to keep everyone healthy and happy. There are many other members, with the addition of new ones as the series progresses through the beginning of spring when those who hibernate wake up, through the end of autumn when hibernation begins again.
The first book in a series of eight introduces everyone in the community, as well as the woods, meadow, and creek where they live, learn, and thrive. The series will take the community through the beauty and bounty of spring, the much warmer days of summer, and into the time of gathering and supplying each other with what they will need for the cold winter before the big sleep. Though the books follow the changing seasons, they can also be read as individual stories.
Live, laugh, and learn with this special community of friends and family. Enjoy the beautiful and vintage illustrations from Shelby Faircloth as they bring the community to life. Sink into the imagination of Kat McKenzie as she builds stories around her own time as a child, growing up surrounded by woods, a bubbling creek, and a lovely meadow. Spend time with your own imagination and reconnect with simpler and innocent reminders of a child's imagination.
Look for book two, Olive and Fae, New Friends, in early 2024.
