Old Well Salted Wounds: A Slim Volume of Poetry

My first publication by Biographical Publishing Company, a young adult novel entitled The Cuban Connection was written straight ahead with no detours along the way. When I started to put together this book of poetry, I presumed such would be the case again. Then, sixty percent of the way through this book, Old Well Salted Wounds, I suddenly decided to change my writing style. Ouch, what next? However, I soon found that turning back the pages of time to the centuries' long masses of traditional poetry, I began to think I found a home. What could possibly go wrong with having Emily Dickinson for a neighbor? My previous attempts at writing poetry often led to me intellectualizing a subject, quite often beyond my ability to truly do justice to the poem. My new style, when I use it, often leaves me with a good feeling inside. In this book I often wished my endings were happier but happiness is in short supply in today's world. Hence the title that I find apropos for this work. I cannot write poetry by creating it out of thin air. Therefore, with me, I have a need of inspiration. There is always someone or something that leads to my creative urges taking a hold of me. I do hope you take some enjoyment from my work and will continue to turn the pages.
