Old Testament Expository Sermons vol. 4 Leviticus and Numbers

This is volume 4 in the Old Testament Expository Sermons series. In Leviticus, God gave Israel instructions for how to worship Him and more laws. The tribe of Levi was the priestly tribe. Jesus quoted from Leviticus when asked about the greatest commandments. Leviticus 19:18 (NASB) You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.In Numbers, the people of Israel fail to trust and obey God and wander in the wilderness for 40 years. Joshua and Caleb were two of the twelve spies that went into Canaan the Promised Land. They came back with a good report and said, "we should enter this land," but the other ten said, "no there are giants in the land, we can't go in." The name of the book seems to come from numbering the people. Numbers 6:24-26 (ESV)24 The LORD bless you and keep you; 25 the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26 the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 12:6-8 (ESV)6 And he said, "Hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the LORD make myself known to him in a vision; I speak with him in a dream. 7 Not so with my servant Moses. He is faithful in all my house. 8 With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?" Numbers 14:30-34 (ESV) 30 not one shall come into the land where I swore that I would make you dwell, except Caleb the son of Jephuniah and Joshua the son of Nun. 31 But your little ones, who you said would become a prey, I will bring in, and they shall know the land that you have rejected. 32 But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your children shall be shepherds in the wilderness forty years and shall suffer for your faithlessness, until the last of your dead bodies lies in the wilderness. 34 According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, forty days, a year for each day, you shall bear your iniquity forty years, and you shall know my displeasure.'
