A vernacular vocabulary

This story is best read to younger children. The story is of Old Man Whickutt, his donkey, and his boy and their journey, although the destination isn't important. The troubles mount as Old Man Whickutt attempts to transport a sack of corn. Eventually, due to perceptions and advice from various people along the way, the donkey carries the man while the boy walks with the corn, the donkey carries the boy while the man walks with the corn, the man and boy carry the donkey with the corn, etc. Each time, Old Man Whickutt uses a rural vernacular like "Sure's the jaybird nested on the fence" and "Welll, the bear's found the berry bush!" Because of the vocabulary, the book can probably be difficult to read for younger children. However, it might prove to be a great book for reading with or to a child.
