A very fun read that weaves that past with the present through 100+ years of this multi-generational mystery. It was an awakening to follow Lydia and her friends through the pages, as they pieced together the scraps and nuggets that genealogists and historians use to paint a vibrant film of people, places and events of the past. Not only was I eager to discover who murdered Julia's grandmother so long ago, but it planted a yearning to know more about how my ancestors lived; who they loved, how they lived and even all the flaws that made them human. I very much look forward to Lydia Proctor's next journey into the past!
A book that will stay with you

I really enjoyed this book. I found that a persons family history can be much more lively than names on a paper. Laurie Pelayo really brought the characters in the past to life, I felt as I could relate to them and I walked away with a deeper understanding of what life was like at the turn of the century (the 20th century that is). I coming up to my thirties and have found a deeper respect for my grandparents, both alive and dead, understanding what life was like to make them who they are today. Thanks for writing this book. I look forward to more Lydia Proctor adventures.
