Brooklyn History

The book "Old Brooklyn in Early Photographs, 1865-1929" arrived in good time and exceeded my expectations in terms of condition of the book, and the content. I had a great aunt who was born in Brooklyn in 1884 and lived there until the family lost contact with her in 1910. The book provided me with an insight into what a young woman of the time would have seen and experienced while growing up It was a pleasure to do business with the seller

A Must Have for Brooklyn enthusiasts.

This is absolutely a must have for anyone who lives in or loves Brooklyn. I've walked the much less stately Promenade, now missing the greenhouse and Montague Street ferry dock. Seen trash stuffed into the latticed metal supports of the El (now JMZ) over Broadway. (That hasn't changed.) And I've imagined grass growing on Bedford Ave. There used to be farms there! This book even includes photos of Coney Island landmarks, Dreamland and Luna Park. Astroland had nothing on Luna. You could plotz. It was gorgeous.

A dazzling collection of photos of Brooklyn.

"Old Brooklyn in Early Photographs, 1865-1929" is simply a first-rate collection of selected photographs of my home town from just after The Civil War to the Depression. The text surrounding the photos are just enough to be informative without bogging down the pleasure of turning the pages. And like the other Dover compilation, "New York in the Ninenteenth Century", the quality of the printing and the strength of the spine are top-notch. A truly great book.
