Olbalbal: A Day in Maasailand

This is a photographic essay of the author's visit to the town of Olbalbal in Tanzania, Africa. The book begins by describing where the Maasai people live in East Africa and how they got there. It describes their semi-nomadic lifestyle and their dependence on cattle. It describes the life of one six year old boy then continues to describe how the houses are built out of sticks, grass and cow dung. There is then a description of their diet. The book then shows many of the intricate bead work pieces that are made by the Maasai people. In addition the book details how the Maasai people hunt and what the structure of their hunting society is including the special initiation ceremony for boys once they reach the age of fifteen. The photographs are an intimate look into the lives of the people of the village. It is well written, informative with excellent photographs.
