The *OJO DE DIOS* folk art is a true spirit-lifter. It can remind people that though its use was most prevalent among the Huichol Indians of Mexico, in today's society we also benefit from God's protection & benevolence. The interesting history of "God's Eyes" all the way from South America through Mexico, and among native Americans, is told by author Charlet Albaum in this excellent 1972 text. Indian lore relating to Creation, and gratefulness for tasks completed is included, and also the meaning of some of the symbolic uses and forms. It would benefit from more color photographs, hence 4 stars. Today's craft lovers are attracted to the scope of colors and textures they can use in making these fairly simple pieces. They can be made in any size; I particularly like them as miniature talismans /AND/ as individualized picture frames! Reviewer mcHAIKU suggests that you encourage the creative juices of young people. They will respond enthusiastically to this satisfying craft & it will add alot of color and make your Easter decorating unique.
