Small Town Life

Being from the same town and of the same age, it is hard to be totally objective. That being said, it is a fairly accurate picture of small town living in the 50's & 60's. When there is one powerful corporation in a small town; it does color politics, society placement, and other aspects of life. If you live in a small town, just replace "Marathon" with the name of your behemouth to get the true flavor of the hilarity and pathos of Hammond's discussion of his father's life. Perhaps like me, your father was a die-hard conservative. If so, much of what Hammond says may seem like a discovery that your home town held a secret garden.Go to your hometown after reading this book and discover your own "States".
