Ohana Fridays: A Westside Family Story

By Rob H and Romani 808

Every Friday on the west side of Wai'anae, the Kalua family transforms their backyard into a celebration of love, laughter, and local tradition. The slack-key guitar hums, the ukulele strums, aunties talk story in pidgin, and plates fill with laulau, kalbi, and haupia as cousins race across the lawn in spirited games of football. It's the one day everyone comes together - their cherished Ohana Friday.

But when the kids overhear that the family might have to move away, everything changes. Determined not to lose the weekly tradition that brings everyone closer, the cousins launch a secret plan to save Ohana Fridays... even if it means sneaking around, teaming up, and learning what "ohana" truly means.

Filled with humor, heart, and the vibrant spirit of Hawai'i's west side, Ohana Fridays: A Westside Family Story is a joyful tale about family bonds, cultural pride, and staying connected even when life begins to shift. Perfect for young readers who love stories about teamwork, island culture, and the power of community.

A feel-good island adventure where the kids take the lead, the family stands strong, and traditions find a way to live on.
