Oh Honestly, Angela!

ISBN 0590403826 - A sequel to Mom, You're Fired!, which I gave 5 stars, I found Oh Honestly, Angela not quite as well done. For the message, however, and for the delivery - something I'm finding Robinson has a gift for - I'm giving it 5 stars anyway. Angela wakes up to find her older sister, Tina, sleeping in her bed. Tina's had a nightmare and it's a scary one: there was no Christmas! Possibly the only thing that ranks up there for Angela is the possibility that she won't get the last strawberry smelly sticker for being a good citizen. Meanwhile, Tina is made aware of starving children when she attends a fundraiser with Melissa and her parents and she decides, on the spot, to adopt a child. While their mother is doing jury duty, Angela and Tina try to deal with their problems on their own. Tina needs to raise $204 for the orphan she wants to adopt and Angela... well, Angela gets the real Christmas lesson in giving. The message is, like in Mom, You're Fired, so subtly done that it may go over the heads of the youngest readers, but I don't think it will. Even if it does, Oh Honestly, Angela is such a nice story that it's worthwhile. Best of all, the parents are around but not huge factors in the story, or the message. That's why kids might grasp that message easier: it's told to them in a way that any kid can relate to. I am most definitely a fan of this author! RL5, ages 8-12. - AnnaLovesBooks

December is a hard time without money...

With their mom gone for jury duty throughout December, both Steele daughters have their own problems...Tina, 11, is simultaneously worried about looking poor in front of her wealthy friends, and not being able to help save orphans in a local drive. Meanwhile, five-year-old Angela is plagued by a dirty, noisy classmate, not realizing that Eddie comes from a poor family where he has been abandoned by his father. By the time Christmas comes around, both Tina and Angela realize that no matter how much money they might or might not have, they've still got their family and friends...which is more than a lot of others have.

Oh Honestly, Angela!

This is a very enjoyable read. It also makes a wonderful read- aloud choice. I have read it to fourth grade students over the years, and they really connect with the characters. Robinson's use of the natural humor that arises when a five year old converses with young teens is very captivating.

this book is easy to read and is not a dr.sues book. a thought ful book that picks up right where the other ends.best entertainer comes from you can read it not to be entertained but to entertain yourself.

Great book,easy to read

This book is about a girl who wants to adopt a orphan in a not so fortunate country. Her mother doesn't make much money and says they can't adopt an orphan because its too expensive. This is a good book for people who need easy books to read and are interested in people who aren't as fortunate as us who are living in other countries.
