This Book Is Very Helpful For New Breeders

When I bought this book around Christmas I was pretty sure it would be almost the same as the first. I thought 'how much could have changed from one version to the next'. I was totally wrong. It is truly incredible how helpful this book can be and how many differences there are between the 1st and 2nd games. I want to thank Toby Simpson and the whole crew that realeased this book as well as the game.
Great book, for the beginner, novice, or expert!

WOW! I thought I knew everything there was to know about Creatures and Creatures 2. I guess this book proved me wrong, and showed how egotistical I was! The genetics chapter was especially interesting, and so was the small section on rescuing unconscious Norns (which was probably the most helpful part of all!) A WONDERFUL book. ~Angel27
Good only for the beginner

This book is a great referance source for beginners, but others'll find it boring. I am not a beginner at Creatures2, nor an expert, but I learnt the maximum creature cheat from this book.
The only authorized guide by the game's creative director!

Anyone who purchased Creatures 2 will agree that the included manual was VERY lacking in comparison to the Creatures 1 manual. Sybex's guide contains not only basic information that should have been included in the game's manual, but also alot of insider information that you won't find anywhere else.A very user-friendly guide-- the Creatures 2 Startegies and Secrets Guide follows the same basic format as Sybex's Guide to Creatures 1. Lot's of hard core information is found here-- such as what chemicals are in the plants of Albia as well as instructions on how to make use of the advanced features in the applets. One very useful feature are the tip boxes that litter the book, giving quick-and-simple answers or explantations to certain problems in the game.My favourite section of the book is Part IV, which provides alot of background on how and why Artificial Life works. This section should interest anyone curious in Cyberlife's technology and the direction Artificial Life is headed. There is also a chapter describing the resources any Creatures 2 users can access if they wish to expand their game by programming their own COB's, applets, and other aspects of the game. The only minus I found in this book were the cartoon and graphic illustrations. They were very cute, but several were also repeated or out of sequence (this does not include the diagrams that follow the text). There is also a chapter that describes the major parts of Albia that is rather brief, and I was disappointed to find that an explanation of the chemicals in the S**e lab was not included. In short, this book contains a lot of filler that should have been in the game manual, as well as background information that will help the user understand why his Cratures and the program act certain ways.
