Ben O'Dea fell in love with Addie Richard when he was twelve years old, and never loved another. Ben, the only child of the wealthiest man in LeMoyne, Louisiana was used to getting whatever he wanted... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A beautifully written story of star-crossed lovers who prevail over the perils of rural and small-town life in South Louisiana, circa 1930-to-1950. The author displays a subtle touch in capturing the voices of compelling characters and structures interesting circumstances in which they both support, and struggle against, one another. Acadian culture predominates for the farmers and their families. The portrayal of love and devotion never drops into melodrama. This is a great book for anyone curious about real “Cajuns” and their legendary, hard-headed drive to thrive in America. The third-person descriptive passages are in the style of Hemingway. The dialogue is crisp and dynamic. I found myself rooting for Addie and Ben to find a way, to never give up.
